What is the role of App Layering Machine Tools?

Hello everyone,

I haven't been able to find an explanation to what the App Layering Machine Tools do. What do they do?

The tools include the app layering filter drivers and services that allow us to support both elastic layering and the packaging process. There are also a set of scripts that are used to do things like activate windows using KMS and support activating office and running layer scripts.
