Needing more details on how the Cloud Connector works

In the Citrix Cloud Traffic Control diagram there is a 'Control Channel' shown that connects from the Cloud Connector to Citrix DaaS and the gateway service.  Is there any detail on what exactly that is?  All I've been able to find in documentation is that it uses 443 on an outbound connection.
