Purpose of VHDX and O365

Thierry DEVIDAL

Question

Hello,

Our users work with cloud base mail service (o365) so our users can use both desktop client and web client.

In WEM we have the settings (enable)

- Enable search index roaming for Microsoft Outlook users

- Outlook search index databse -  backup and restore

So in our CPM file server we have some folders "VHD" that contains OutlookOST.vhdx & OutlookSearchIndex.vhdx

I would like to know, see, some purpose of enable it ? In cloud-base env.

What is the benefit ?

Because for me, in cloud-base env, the dekstop client should be only be a "viewer". And when I try to search or something, the request is post to cloud and it's the cloud that answer? Right ?

Regards,

Not really how it works unless you operate in online mode and have acceptable performance when making queries across the web - rarely OK

most environments still operate in cached mode, meaning that now you have an OST and index to deal with. If you don't persist these, the experience sucks. You cannot in a supported fashion redirect them to a network location, and using file based profiles is not really going to cut the mustard. Hence container/VHDX technology to make things work
