Delivery group sometimes powers on only a fraction of VMs

Hi there!

 

I have an issue where the delivery group is configured to power on 225 VMs at 05:00a.m..

This works almost everyday. In the last week and today however only about 3-5 VMs were startet and therefor many users weren't able to login into their VDIs. I had to manually start them (either via vSphere or Citrix Studio) and everything works fine. The VMs are shut down VMs when user disconnecting as configured in the delivery group.

I cannot fond any error or helpful log to investigate this issue neither in vSphere nor in Citrix Studio.

Is there any logging I can enable, so I can investigate this issue any further?

Typically you should see events thrown at vSphere and logged by the service account - strange that you aren't seeing them

 

You can look via powershell at the hosting actions, but default time for retention is pretty low

Persistent or non-persistent machines?

In general for VDA logging, you could enable logging on the individual VDAs.

I now noticed that many machines in that delivery group in question are showing power state "unknown" -  and therefor Citrix won't start these.

I then manually power on these VMs in my vCenter and suddenly Citrix studio shows "on" in the power state column.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I also compared the machine ids of the VMs with the power state "unknown" on both the delivery group and the hypervisor.

They are identical. I have no clue what is happening. For some reason the ddc might lose connection to the hypervisor over the weekend. Mostly I have this issue on mondays.
