VMWare to XEN migration

Hello Support,

 

This is regarding miration of VM from VMWare VSphere to XenCenter 8.2.

We did export of SLES15SP3 and tried to import the .vmdk Files in XenCenter. After some struggle we could atleast import the VM and initiated the boot. But the Linux did not boot properly and landed in Rescue mode.

Does that mean the difference between sda disk and xvda Disknames plays a role here?

What are we supposed to take care of in order to make the VM bootable?

Did you uninstall the VMware tools before exporting the VMs? In what format did you do the exports?

Good to know. Shouldn't the VMware Tools still be uninstalled before the conversion takes place?

Uninstalling VMware Tool before migrating is right.

 

If you failed to import .vmdk file with XenCenter, you still have XenConvert to convert it.

We also use Vinchin Backup & Recovery to perform VM migration. So far it works well.
