Citrix VM Tools 9.2.2 for Windows and missing Windows 11 support

Hello,

 

Citrix released the new version of Citrix VM Tools 9.2.2 for Windows these days.

My question is now, why these VM Tools do not (officially) support Windows 11?

There's generally a lag of sorts between new releases and support. I'm sure it'll be updated eventually.

As far as I can see, Citrix Hypervisor cannot run Windows 11 guests (not just no official support), so there's not a lot of point in the tools.

No word out yet on whether Windows 11 is supported or not; I expect this will need to wait until a compatible XenTools version for Windows 11 will be developed.

I think it needs to wait until there is vTPM support. At the moment, Windows 11 doesn't even install (which is way before you get to the installing tools stage).

Xen 4.6 includes vTPM support (fully patched 8.2 CU1 is 4.13.4), but this does not appear to have been exposed in the Citrix Hypervisor build

If you want Windows 11 without TPM/Secure Boot you have to do a hack to make it work. So yea, there will have to be some Hypervisor stuff happen

before Windows 11 support will be available as supported.

As a data point, I used https://gist.github.com/AveYo/c74dc774a8fb81a332b5d65613187b15 to create a Windows 11 ISO that installed on XenServer 7.1 and Hypervisor 8.2 CU1. However, I could not get the VM tools 9.2.2 to install. The XenServer PV Bus (0002) installs correctly, but nothing else, so the vbd and vif are still running in emulated mode.
