verify backup integrity of xva images

Mitch Vega

Question

Is there a process to verify or check the integrity of previously created xva backup files? These files would have been created with XenCenter 7

That is if we have some .xva files stored on a backup server, how can I go about checking the health and integrity of those files? Is there a process for this?

Thanks!

One option we did was to restore the VM, but just not start it back up, and then delete it. You can look for any errors that occur in the restoration process (such as through return code). It will get a new UUID, so there's no conflict with an existing VM, as long as you don't start it up. You can also just look for a successful completion of the backup proccess itself, though that IMO isn't as reliable as doing an actual restore.
