Citrix newbie question

Hi all,

 

I have a business requirement; need to host a bunch of legacy operating systems (WinXP, Win95, Windows Server 2000) ... will be doing this within VMware. 
 

I need a decent RDS type solution so users can login to these operating systems from a windows 10 laptop. I need to create a safety barrier from those old operating systems. 
 

be approx 15 users accessing each OS. They don’t need one each, they work on the same OS in their teams. 
 

do any Citrix solutions solve this problem?

Hi,

 

Those Operating Systems have never been supported, or haven't been in a very long time..

I think you would best look into a solution that would allow you to run these legacy Operating Systems and applications, that you can then run on top of Citrix Virtual Desktops.

would perhaps a jump box style RDS system be more appropriate for accessing older environments like this?

Hi,

 

I think the main problem will be that the Operating Systems are so old that the implementation of RDP/RDS is not that good. Running the applications in a container that runs an old version of Windows, then put Citrix (or RDS) on top of that, looks like a better idea to me.

so essentially pre build the OS and application within; then present this to my users as a packaged application they simply launch?

Yes, exactly, or it can be a full desktop with the packages inside. The challenge will be finding a packaging technology that supports older Windows OS.
