Question

Hello,

I am faced with an issue where a user is able to pin items to the taskbar and use them within the same session.  But once they logout and then back in to a different server they are unable to see them until a few conditions are met.  These conditions are as follows....

1. Logging into a particular server 2 times.

     a. One the first login the icons will not be visible.  However the second login to the SAME server they will apear...

2. Windows Explorer is restarted

3. The user pins a new application to the taskbar

4. Unpin an icon that was already pinned.

     a. The remaining applications that were pinned will appear

The UPM settings are as follows...

Syncing the following directories

1. appdata\local\microsoft\windows\caches
2. appdata\local\TileDataLayer
3. AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

Mirroring the following directories...

 1. appdata\local\microsoft\windows\caches
2. appdata\local\TileDataLayer

Excluding from Profile Streaming

1. AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned

2. appdata\local\microsoft\windows\caches
3. appdata\local\TileDataLayer
4. AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

Is there anything else that I can look for in terms of file or folder synchronization that might be missing?

Does anyone have this working in an environment with shared non-dedicated resources?

Thanks in Advance....

I ended up finding the answer to this...

There was another unknown group policy applying the start menu layout with no value.  This was allowing the start menu to appear and be manipulated until next login.

The issue with the taskbar is that within the DefaultLayout.xml file that gets created and manipulated for the start menu configuration are settings for the taskbar as well.

There for if you create this file to be mandatory or misconfigure it like above you will not be able to pin taskbar items....

Below is a reference link to the taskbar settings...
