Ubuntu 16.04 VDA and PVS

Sebastian Schmitz1709155650

Question

Hi,

has anybody a working set of a Ubuntu Linux VDA with PVS?

This is how i tried to get it running:

1.       Installation ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso                 http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/16.04.1/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso

2.       Install Updates via Applications\Software Updater

3.       Reboot

4.       Installation PVS Target Device Driver

  • a.       sudo dpkg –i pvs_7.15.0-18089_amd64.deb
  • b.       sudo apt-get update
  • c.       sudo apt-get install –yf
  • d.       Reboot

5.       Creating VHDX File

  • a.       Sudo pvs-imager

6.       Boot from VHDX File – Maintenance Mode

7.       Installation VDA 7.16 (same with 7.15)

  • a.       sudo dpkg –i xendesktopvda_7.16.0.412.ubuntu16.04_amd64.deb
  • b.       sudo apt-get update
  • c.       sudo apt-get install –yf
  • d.       reboot
  • e.       /opt/Citrix/VDA/sbin     sudo chmod +x ./ctxinstall.sh
  • f.        /opt/Citrix/VDA/sbin     sudo ./ctxinstall.sh

Configure:

  • NTP
  • Domain Name
  • Realm of Domain Controller
  • FQDN of Domain Controller
  • Winbind as AD Integration Method
  • AD Join User +Password
  • Delivery Controller FQDN

8.       Shutdown & Promote vDisk to Production

9.       Create Multiple Targets and AD Accounts in PVS, add to Machine Catalog in Studio

10.   Machines do not register in Delivery Controller.

Workaround on each VDA:

1.       /opt/Citrix/VDA/sbin     sudo chmod +x ./ctxinstall.sh

2.       /opt/Citrix/VDA/sbin     sudo ./ctxinstall.sh

3.       Configure:

4.       NTP

5.       Domain Name

6.       Realm of Domain Controller

7.       FQDN of Domain Controller

8.       Winbind as AD Integration Method

9.       AD Join User +Password

10.   Delivery Controller FQDN

Now every machine is registered in Studio and ready to work until reboot.

Sebastian

Hi,

I finally got it running:

1.       Installation ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso

2.       Installation open-vm-tools

3.       Reboot

4.       Installation PVS Target Device Driver

5.       Import CA-Certificate

6.       Create VHDX File, boot from VHDX file

7.       Installation VDA 7.16

Don't Update the machine as it updates the installed java version and crashes pvs and vda configuration.

KR,

Sebastian

Question on this.  I am seeing HUGE amount of retries with Ubuntu 16.04 on XenServer with my PVS server on VMWare.

My windows machines on the same host don't have any type of issue like that.

Also performance on the machine in private mode is a dog.  I didn't see this type of performance when testing CentOS, but ran into different compatibility issues.
