  1. Sorry, no native speaker - did my best ?

I had the same error on 1912 CU4 on 2016 and Sophos AV. The error occours mostly five to ten minutes after a reboot and sometimes in the middle of the day.

    I saw the fallowing errors:

    1) CtxUri-Error at the Eventlog.

    2) Some Failed messages in the Sophos Log at the same second  (enabled verbose logging HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SAVOnAccess [DWORD]LogFlags = 0xff)

    • Failed messages pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\RandomCitrixHookingDll and  %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Adobe\AcroCef\DC\Acrobat\Cache\Code Cache
    • Excluding both paths did nothing
    • disable Sophos or exclude C-Drive resolves the issue

    3) Process Tracking (Thanks to Rene Balz!) showed me that a AcroCef.exe always starts at the same second.

    • Adobe suggested to disable DLL-injection for Acrobat and Reader. You need need the newest version for this. Adobe had a lot of trouble with DLL injection from some AV vendors. Sadly Sophos or Citrix was not on there list.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\DLLInjection] "bBlockDLLInjection"=01

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\DLLInjection] "bBlockDLLInjection"=01

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\DLLInjection] "bBlockDLLInjection"=01

    4) Adding AcroCef.exe and RdrCEF.exe to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CtxUvi\UviProcessExcludes solves the problem. After around 700 reboots the error didn't occur.

Adobe added AcroCef.exe and RdrCEF.exe some month ago.

ok... i spent some hours again to find out whats happening and i narrowed it down to following:

    • its all about AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches
    • if you delete this folders content (the *.db files) from a UPM profile, you get exactly the issue we see with CU1 or 7.16
    • if you add a start menu icon AFTER a profile is created, it will be blank on the second login (seems to be missing in those *.db files)
    • LC7596 addresses an issue related to this directory and recommends adding this folder to the synchronized directories: https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/profile-management/current-release/whats-new/fixed-issues.html
    • even with this path added, i still had the same issue (and also the issue where newly added icons are blank on later logins)
    • even with this path NOT added, this folder gets roamed by UPM (its not excluded by UPM defaults)
    • relaunching the explorer process, will recreate the *.db files in the cache folder and therefore fixes the issue

for me this is pretty clear. LC7596 introduced a change in handling this cache folder (for Windows 10) which now affects the start menu on Server 2016.

i just dont know WHEN exactly this issue happens. when i updated a customer, i immediately saw the empty start menu icons. i did same in my lab and had it as well. now, after multiple up and downgrading, creating new profiles etc. i have a hard time to reproduce it. maybe it affects only profiles that were created before CU1/7.16?

    Hello Christoph,

I think you are on the right way.

When I use a profile witch was created with VDA and UPM 7.15 the problem occours immediately on a server with UPM 7.15 and UPM 7.15.1000.

When I use a profile witch was created with VDA 7.15 and UPM 7.15.1 have to login twice befor the icons disapear.

@dvorg28 When they said it OS related... Did you tell them........ This doesn't happen on 7.15 no CU1? or even on 7.14.1?

I have had so much bad support with them, and proven them wrong so many times, its really hard to trust Citrix Support now a days.

While restarting the Explorer process, seems like a good workaround. Its not Ideal for customer who run this is Prod.

I am going to make some calls today on this, and dig up what I can. Sounds like your still dealing with 1st level support?

So to my knowledge... We are dealing with 2 issues with CU1....

    1. Running Gpupdate multiple times with cause disconnects,

    2. Start menu icon gone correct?

I told them that it is not OS related and after some aditional testing they aggreed.  Two days ago they also told me that nobody else reported this issue. Shame on me that i didn't watch here earlier.

Yes I'm dealting with 1st level. I hope they will send me to the second level after the next GTM session.

I can confirm the second error.

  4. Hi,

sorry for my bad english. I will try my best.

I have a 7.15 VDA environment on server 2016 with the same issue. When I update the UPM from 7.15 to 7.15.1000 i got this error. When jumping back the issue disapears. I have a ticket open since 12/7 and still got no fix. They gave me some old docs and said that it is OS related.

If you restart the explorer process then the icons showing up imediatly. Maybe it is possible to write a script witch restarts the explorer process some seconds after the logon is done.

This could be a workaround, but no solution.

I have another GTM-Session today. If I get some new information I will share them.
