Is there a way to optimize Memory usage and minimize the need for vswp files (Citrix MCS, and VMware Hypervisor).

Question

Hi Everyone,

Is there a way to optimize memory usage and minimize the need for vswp files(Citrix MCS, and Vmware Hypervisor)?

In our Citrix environment we notice when new VMS are created using MCS, the vswp size is equal to Memory size, is this by default  ?

Any way to change  this setting ?

Thanks,

Akiyo

In vSphere, if you reserve memory, then whatever memory you reserve is subtracted from the .vswp file.

Thanks Carl for your response. We notice in our environment if say the allocated Memory for a Desktop is 16GB( in MCS Provisioned Desktops), then the .vswp file becomes 16GB as well.

Is this intentional, or is there an issue at play ?

In vCenter, right-click a VM and Edit Settings. Expand Memory. Configure a reservation. Whatever you configure here is removed from the size of the .vswp file.

I agree with what you mentioned, but my inquiry pertains to whether we can establish an 8MB reservation in the Master Image.
