Xendesktop and browser updates

M C1709163001

Question

We use the Citrix app layers to provide a non-persistent XenDesktop to our users. We have a seperate applayer for browsers such as Edge, Firefox and Chrome.

We followed the guide for this back in the days https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX225367/app-layering-recipe-for-google-chrome-26-or-later.

I'm not really sure if this is still the best methode. Once a month we update the layer, push new images to the machine catalogs and then everything is back up to date for a few days.

Browsers bring out alot of patches within a month which we cannot keep up with to do the layers once a week or so.

If we activate the Chrome update policy all the updates will be writen in the user profile. According to some articles this is not ideal for large scale orgs.

What is the best way for this nowadays?
