Citrix DaaS published desktop login as local user instead of domain user

Markus Grein1709162732

Question

Hello everybody,

we are experiencing a curious phenomenon in our DaaS environment.

We are using Citrix DaaS with the VDAs running on Azure (Windows Server 2019 with VDA 2203 CU3 installed).

If we connect to these VDAs using RDP, everything is working fine and we are logged in as DOMAIN\USER.

If we connect to these VDAs using Citrix (published desktop), the desktop works, but we are logged in as LOCALSERVERNAME\USER.

In the security eventlogs, we can see that every time we start a published desktop or app, the (local) user account is newly created.
Why is Citrix using local user accounts instead of the existing domain account?

What could be the issue for this behaviour?

Sincerely

Markus

Hello everybody,

for those who are experiencing the same problem:

We managed to fix it with help of the Citrix support.

The cause is the setting "MachineLogOnType" of the DesktopGroup.

Curiously, you can't edit this setting in Citrix Cloud, you have to do it via PowerShell.

So first, you need to follow these steps to get a remote powershell connection to the Citrix Cloud: https://www.citrix.com/blogs/2022/02/03/getting-started-with-powershell-automation-for-citrix-cloud/

If you have the remote powershell connection established, check the DesktopGroup with the command: Get-BrokerDesktopGroup

There you see your current setting of MachineLogOnType. In our case, it was LocalMappedAccount.

To switch it to ActiveDirectory, hit the following command: Set-BrokerDesktopGroup <YOURDESKTOPGROUP> -MachineLogOnType ActiveDirectory

Afterwords, verify your settings with Get-BrokerDesktopGroup and you're done!

Sincerely

Markus
