AVD Desktop client (MSRDC) in Citrix doesn't work

Installed AVD desktop client on Citrix session host server (OS: Windows server 2016, VDA: 1912 LTSR CU5). When subscribe button is clicked, "We couldn't authenticate you. Please contact technical support for help" error message shows up. When feed URL is provided after clicking Subscribe with URL, same error shows up.


I have performed troubleshooting from all angels (ZScaler, Firewall, MSRDC, Azure AD, Azure MFA, Defender for Endpoint, etc.) but to my disappointment, I have not been able to find a fix.

Interestingly, AVD web client (https://client.wvd.microsoft.com/arm/webclient/) works fine but it comes with far lesser features than the desktop client.


I would appreciate if anyone who has encountered this issue in the past or has any suggestion can come forward and help me resolve this.


This is just an interim solution for out of warranty and unsupported thin clients that can only use Citrix as a connection broker. On all other thick clients, AVD desktop as well as web client work fine.
