new sessions created instead re-connecting existing ones

Raffael Trotta

Question

Hello there,

We have more and more cases of sessions that are not properly reconnected. Instead new sessions are getting created when users are trying to reconnect to their session.

Strangely, the old sessions are no longer shown in Citrix Studio, only the new ones. The old sessions can only be seen by logging into the VDA...old and new sessions are not always on the same VDA, sometimes the new one gets created on another VDA (which makes finding old ones even more troublesome).

Windows Server 2019 / Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 1912 CU5

Any ideas, people having similar problems?

Hi,
that sounds familiar to me. Set this registry key, after that the problem should be fixed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Ica\GroupPolicy

Name: EnforceUserPolicyEvaluationSuccess

Type: REG_DWORD

Value: 0

You can finde more with this keyword on the internet: "CVADHELP-20129"

Thank you for that input, that already helped a lot!

But it also led to some new questions...

This seems fixed for the 2203 CU2, anybody knows if and when there will be a fix for 1912 (or is it with CU7, could not find any information about it in the release notes)?

Furthermore I found articles which mentioned there also 2 other Registry Keys needed;

Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Reconnect

Name: DisableGPCalculation

Type: REG_DWORD

Value: 1

Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Reconnect

Name: FastReconnect

Type: REG_DWORD

Value: 0

Same issue with Server 2019 and 2203 LTSR CU2, added FastReconnect alone and it did not resolve. Found Citrix article indicating it will not work if there is a Session Idle Timer policy.
https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX296769/users-on-one-vda-cannot-reconnect-to-disconnected-session
Also added the DisableGPCalculation to see if that resolves, but that was supposed to have been resolved in a 1912 LTSR CU update.
