macOS Citrix Workspace app - full screen window remains after app close

Citrix Workspace Version: (2109)

macOS Version 12.0.1

M1 Mac Mini


Setup: launch the remote Windows session in a separate workspace / Full screen. (i.e. you have 2 desktops see pic-1)

Occurrence / frequency: Sometimes, after a period of idle state


Issue: Stay away from machine for 15/20 min (idle time)

The Citrix window is completely unresponsive. The desktop stays but no actions possible 

Note the icon on the dock disappears.


Understanding the connection time-out, the app closed. But for some reason the full-screen desktop remains.


The only option seems to be close via Mission control.
