XenApp Advanced Licensing Giving Enterprise Features

Lynsay Wellhauser

Question

Wondering if anyone else has seen this. I've contacted support and they are as stumped as I am.

Our current environment is the XenApp 7.15 LTSR using XenApp Advanced licensing, and was built for us by a third-party Citrix partner 4 years ago. It was built with VDI and Configuration Logging in mind (you may already see the point of my question by my saying that) and we've been using this configuration for 4 years without issue.

Now that we want to upgrade to the CVAD 1912 LTSR, the licenses aren't honouring the VDI and Configuration Logging --- XenApp Advanced licensing (Virtual Apps Standard) doesn't *actually* include VDIs and Configuration Logging. XenApp Enterprise does, not Advanced. Somehow, our 7.15 environment was getting Enterprise features with Advanced licensing.

So now I'm wondering how we got to that point in the first place. It seems like the third-party did something 4 years ago, maybe a bug they were exploiting? Has anyone else experienced this? XenApp Advanced licensing giving Enterprise licensing features on 7.15?

Luckily, we decided to do a parallel upgrade, so our production 7.15 environment isn't currently affected, but this is a work-stop on upgrading to 1912.

Attached are some screenshots as proof.

Any ideas?
