XenApp servers High disk usage - up to 100 % from time to time



A strange problem has occured again.
In Citrix Director I can see high disk usage on different servers that comes and go. Nearly 100% disk usage.


When this problem occur, boot a VM (XenApp server) takes up to 2 hours somethimes.

The problem seems related to streaming problem from pvs server.

Ping from pvs to XenServer host:

-request timeout is frequent (10 pings which 3 are request timeout, packet loss is about 15-30%


- 2 hops (2 router and switch)



All VM boots from ISO in XenServer

Storage is local.

PVS targets require reliable and fast network access to the PVS servers, to service I/O request inside the PVS targets in a timely manner.
If the network drops packets, and has high ping times, PVS target devices will have high disk latency.

Things to check:
If it is periodic behaviour, is there network saturation at the time? Waht may be causing this
What is consuming disk I/O on target devices (check resource monitor, or use taks manager details, and add in read bytes i/o cloumn)

For example, AV is not properly configured, and does a full system scan it is not optimal.
If all target devices do a full system scan at the same time, like at boot up, it will saturate the network and PVS server with PVS read traffic.
