Win 10 VDI instances Mic is detected and used fine by Teams but Device Manager and other Apps do not detect a microphone

Robert Peck

Question

VDA is 1912 LTSR

Citrix Workspace version 2107

Win 10 VDI delivered through Citrix cloud

Teams works with Microphone.  Inside teams the microphone is detected with its full name (in fact all three microphones).

When I open Device Manager there is no Mic detected and other apps (Cisco Jabber and Cisco IP Communicator) do not see a microphone.

Can anyone teach me about what might be going on here?  Is this being caused by Teams optimization?

I can't repro.

I am optimized and using CWA 2109 though - but that version is not really that much different from 2107. VDA and Teams version should play no role here.

Can you take a look at your webrpc logs?

On your laptop, go to AppData\Local\Temp\HdxRtcEngine, find the folder with the right timestamp and open webrpc log.

At the very beginning look for these lines and paste them back in your reply. Also can you attach a similar screenshot to the one i added?

Well, it turns out after going over my policies once again I found that I did have 'Client microphone redirection' disabled.   That's embarrassing.  It was good that I went back through it again.

I guess the Teams optimization is so good that it ignores that policy because Teams saw all my microphones while the OS did not.

Thank you very much for your time looking at that Fernando.  Now that the policy is set to enabled things are working as expected.
