Citrix Workspace app / no apps

I have no apps in Citrix Workspace version 1912 although I have configured a machine catalog and created an Application group and assigned it to the user via the AD group.  The connection is configured via storefront to the controller with port 80. The FQDN of the store can be resolved. At the moment the environment is only running internally, no netscaler in use.
Beachons are configured with the service storefront address and citrix.com. All servers are running with https, certificates are not expired. The login is configured for the domain.
What must be installed on a server to select the application? Does this server always have to be running? Is the VDA installation sufficient?
What have I forgotten?
