Citrix Director 7.15 cu6 keeps logging me out

Barry Whitehouse

Question

Hi,

Just after some advice on where to troubleshoot some issues we are having 'staying' logged into director.

We have 4 director servers all load balanced via an ADC and with persistence set to 460 minutes,
All servers have the Session State cookie settings time-out to 420,
We use Edge to open director up but sometimes this randomly kicks us out when moving between areas in director and load balances onto another server and so on.. no real consistent pattern either.
Other times this will work without issues for nearly the rest of the day.

Cant see anything obvious in event viewer other than and an occasional ASP.NET error "event code 4005 forms authentication failed for the request" and im not sure about this in all honesty.

Thanks for any advice..

Hi Barry,

Did you also change the logon time in IIS?
It either appears like your login time is expired or that your session persistence is not set properly in the ADC (which I suspect most).
What kind of persistence did you set?

Carl wrote something about the IIS part in one of his blogs:

Session timeout

By default the idle time session limit of the Director is 245 min. If you wish to change the timeout, here is how to do it.

Log on to the Director Server as an administrator

Open the ‘IIS Manager’

Browse to ‘SitesDefault Web SiteDirector’ in the left hand pane.

Open ‘Session State’ in the right hand pane

Change the ‘Time-out (in minutes)’ value under ‘Cookie Settings’

Click ‘Apply’ in the Actions list

Kind Regards,

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the pointers, yes we did set the logon times in IIS/director as suggested but this made no difference during testing .
I think your right about persistence and I'm going to go over Carl's guidance on load balancing and persistence for director and see if we have missed anything and post back if we get to the bottom of it.

Thanks
