If we build a new Citrix environment, will we be able to migrate our current persistent MCS created VMs over to it?

Kelly Weiler

Question

We currently have our Citrix infrastructure, license server, SQL server, storefront servers, Deliver Controllers, Provisioning servers, all running on Windows Server 2012R2 servers and we are using Citrix 7.15CU5 in our environment and for VDAs.  Our PVS created and managed virtual app servers are Windows server 2012R2 servers.  We also have many Windows 10 MCS created, persistent, assigned to individual user VMs.  If we build a new Citrix environment and infrastructure, license server, SQL server, storefront servers, Deliver Controllers, Provisioning servers, all running on Windows Server 2019 servers and using Citrix 1912CU2, will we be able to migrate our existing PVS virtual app servers and MCS Windows 10 VMs over to the new environment without having to rebuild everything?  And if so, are there steps on how to do this somewhere?  We are trying to avoid having to rebuild all the PVS and MCS created VMs, especially the MCS created persistent VMs.  These are created, assigned to individual users, data installed on the disk, VMs that we want to be able to move over and not have to rebuild them all over again, is this possible?  Thanks everyone!

For MCS you can just switch them to "non mcs" machines nice and easily, and then import them as power managed machines in your new farm, update the listOfDDCs keys and away you go - i have some scripts here which will do all the heavy lifting for you - else you can export and import assignments within studio

For PVS, take your images, import them into the new farm and off you go - there isn't anything tying PVS to a specific CVAD farm
