Random grey screen W2019 Desktops and CVAD2009

Gabriel Cossu

Question

Hello,

We experience a strange issue with CVAD 2009 on Windows 2019 VMware VMs.

randomly, our desktops servers can't open correct sessions : users get a grey screen an no interaction with desktop is possible, the session is opened, all seems good in studio and director. No specific error messages in the event logs.

Seems not happening with applications delivery.

When this occurs, no more session can be opened untill the server is rebooted.

Case opened, support said me was it a strange things and no similar issue in all their data !

Things he has suggested :

Restarting desktop service has no effect.

Excluding dwm.exe from antivirus access control has no effect.

I check for the 2598 port but firewall is disabled on VDA's  for domain, and the rules automatically created at VDA install.

All info I found concerns older versions but nothing on 2006 and 2009...

Thanks for your help !

We have the same issue and at the moment Citrix are no help. If you check your system logs you will see these errors :

The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has encountered an unexpected error. 1005

The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has detected an integrity error during process creation. The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has been disabled. 1003

There is nothing you can do to fix it unless you reboot. Citrix support have said that something is trying to change a reg key under the following

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_DLLs

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_DLLs

This disables the Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver and the server has t restarted. Ours seems to happen when users logoff and we struggling to capture the interaction with the reg key because we have 80 servers and its random.

If you get any joy with this please share and if I find anything I will do the same.

Hello,

I have got good news about this issue.

After long data collect on my servers, with the citrix Support, they found the cause of the problem.

It's an handle on dll's in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\HDX\bin, taken by Sophos Antivirus.

We've made an exception for the "on access control" for that folder and the issue does not occurs anymore.

Thanks for posting this and apologies I've only just seen your replay after 3 months. We do use Sophos so I will give this a go because its just started to happen again.
