Chromium Edge crashes on Server 2016 VDA

Tim Emunds

Question

Hi all,

we are experiencing issues with Chromium Edge since a few weeks. Our customers complain about crashes in Chromium Edge on Server 2016 VDAs.

The issue occurs while using the Browser for a while. If you open a new tab, it just says: "Unknown :-(". The windows task itself is still responding.

If you close and open up the browser, it works again for a while until the same issue occurs.

I already reinstalled, cleaned profiles and updated to the newest version. I also disabled Hardware acceleration, but it does not help either.

We are using Citrix UPM and exclude all settings listed here: https://www.avanite.com/blog/roaming-edge-chromium

I enabled the debug log, but I don't know what to do with those log entries:

[79168:37632:1104/153854.597:VERBOSE1:v8_context_snapshot.cc(236)] A context is created from snapshot for main world
[79168:37632:1104/153854.597:VERBOSE1:script_context.cc(262)] Created context:
  extension id:           (none)
  frame:                  0000061AA2FE23E0
  URL:
  context_type:           WEB_PAGE
  effective extension id: (none)
  effective context type: WEB_PAGE
[79168:37632:1104/153854.598:VERBOSE1:script_context.cc(262)] Created context:
  extension id:           (none)
  frame:                  0000000000000000
  URL:
  context_type:           UNSPECIFIED
  effective extension id: (none)
  effective context type: UNSPECIFIED

And also multiple times this entry:

[77672:77620:1104/153852.474:ERROR:paint_controller.cc(634)] PaintController::FinishCycle() completed
[77672:77620:1104/153852.487:ERROR:paint_controller.cc(634)] PaintController::FinishCycle() completed
[77672:77620:1104/153852.505:ERROR:paint_controller.cc(634)] PaintController::FinishCycle() completed
[77672:77620:1104/153852.517:ERROR:paint_controller.cc(634)] PaintController::FinishCycle() completed
[77672:77620:1104/153852.534:ERROR:paint_controller.cc(634)] PaintController::FinishCycle() completed

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Thanks and kind regards,

Tim
