Citirix is crashing games compiled with the Unity Game Engine

Daniel Puglielli

Question

Hello, the company I work for started using Citrix so I had to install the required software. It works, no issues there.

Apparently Citrix has a side effect were it affected other applications, mainly games, that were compiled in the Unity Game Engine before a certain version. This issue was fixed in later versions of Unity, but any games that were finalized before then, still have the bug. Those games crash when started. Currently it's affecting two games that I'm aware of: Night in the Woods and The Long Reach. According to my research Citrix is the cause and there is a fix. When installing Citrix through command prompt, to use:

CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe ADDLOCAL=ReceiverInside,ICA_Client,AM,SELFSERVICE,DesktopViewer,Flash,Vd3d,WebHelper,BrowserEngine

And this does work, for a time. Eventually it stops working and it becomes necessary to uninstall Citrix and then reinstall it and set it up again. Obviously doing this over and over becomes tiresome. I'm posting in the hope that Citrix could be patched to fix this bug as it could affect a number of other games.

You can find other accounts of this issue by searching for "Unity Player Citrix" on google.

Thank you.
