Monitoring Application Hangs and Creating Memory Dumps on Session Hosts

Ian Dale1709161148

Question

We're Using XenApp\Xendesktop 7.15 and MCS to create Windows 2016 Server Session Hosts. The master image of these servers have a number of applications installed, one of which has started causing some end users intermittent problems.

Because the environment that the application is run in is non-persistent, is their any way of monitoring the windows event log for this environment and upon detecting the application hang perform a memory dump? Is it possible to forward event logs from session hosts to be collected by a third party?

I'm asking these questions because I'm hesitant to deploy any monitoring client to the images that may interfere with the VDA client itself.

Regards,

Ian

Hey Idale,
Check out Windows Event Log Forwarding, i've set this up previously and it should allow you to nativity forward event logs from a server/desktop to a collector.

Depending on your Hypervisor you can also setup full memory dumps if applications are hanging and causing the server to become completely unresponsive.
