Horizon View vs XenDesktop

Tony Flanagan

My organisation are going to POC VMWare Horozon 7 for VDI use with VXRail and GPU's for users who need high quality graphics for GIS/Map work.

We are currently running Citrix XenApp 7.15 LTSR FP3.

Can anyone advise on any good comparisons between the two VDI solutions and possibly the potential downsides of going to VMware. I don't know much about VM Horizon, but I see things about adding 3rd party load balancers on the DMZ and Internal networks and wondered if this was one of its frailties that disadvantage it. Also noticed that their 'instant clone' does not work when using GPU?

Appreciate any thoughts on this subject if you have knowledge on both.

Many Thanks

The vendor is usually chosen for non-technical reasons. Once you choose a preferred vendor, you then try to determine if that vendor's product meets your requirements or not. The "best" technical product is rarely the deciding factor.

Newest versions of vSphere and Horizon support GPUs with Instant Clones.

You can use Citrix ADC to load balance UAGs and Connection Servers. There's also VMware Avi (advanced load balancing), NSX load balancing, F5, etc.
