Folder redirection Group Policy - Better method

jeff meanor

With a Desktop, a Group Policy can be created to redirect a users folder (e.g. documents) to a network share. In GP, this can be accomplished by either entering User registry items (in Preferences) for each redirected folder or by using the Folder Redirection part of the User windows Settings. Are there any advantages to using one method over the other? Though they accomplish the same purpose, how they go about it may be different. What method is most commonly used.

all ends up writing shell folder keys - GPO based Folder Redirection is pretty resilient and reliable, it processes using the GPO CSE engine

if you need additional things that are not covered by GPO then shell keys directly are OK

in WEM environments i use WEM as its flexible and bypasses GPO processing Tax
