Trouble when upgrade Xenserver 6.5 to 7.6

Hubertus Feindler

Question

Hi there,

I am upgrading my 6.5 pool to 7.6. I have three storage repositories - one QNAP, one Synology and one MD3000i attached.

Upgrade of the pool master done.

Now I only get my MD3000i SRs attached.

SMlog and multipath entries below::

Mar 25 15:19:29 xen1 SM: [4887] Raising exception [47, The SR is not available [opterr=Error reporting error, unknown key Device not appeared yet]]

    rr_min_io 				10
    path_checker 			rdac

}

As my poolmaster now is not usable I am stuck with the migration :(

The MD3600-related entries in the multipath.conf file were kept across a lot of version of XenServer, but you may well need to edit the file and put back in any custom version of the Synology configuration entry. Check and see and I bet it's missing after the upgrade, which overwrites the multipath.conf file. Do you still have a record of what th eold entry looked like?

Worst case, you may have to go through an iscsiadm discovery process once again.

Attention: it is an MD3000i which needs to be added manually to the multipath.com

I found IPv6 enabled on the Synology iscsi Server. Even though none of the xenservers has installed ipv6 this might have been caused the problem.

I have removed the links from the filesystem. discovery now only shows the 4 pathes instead of 8 before. I have all 4 sessions for the Synology now.

Still got this Error:

Mar 26 19:26:30 xen02 SM: [18513] Raising exception [47, The SR is not available [opterr=Error reporting error, unknown key Device not appeared yet]]
Mar 26 19:26:30 xen02 SM: [18513] lock: released /var/lock/sm/5675c1ac-49d6-afe6-7501-4959950d19a2/sr

Mar 26 19:26:30 xen02 SM: [18513]     return self._run_locked(sr)
Mar 26 19:26:30 xen02 SM: [18513]   File "/opt/xensource/sm/SRCommand.py", line 159, in _run_locked
Mar 26 19:26:30 xen02 SM: [18513]     rv = self._run(sr, target)

Then I have found that the iSCSI IQN was empty. I have readded one of the existing entries from my Target

Mar 26 19:29:53 xen02 SM: [22542] Discovery for iscsi data targetIQN iqn.2000-01.com.synology:synology.target-1.3dcf3bbdb9, portal 192.168.131.103 returned empty list Trying another path if available

Mar 26 19:29:53 xen02 SM: [22542]     sr = driver(cmd, cmd.sr_uuid)

Mar 26 19:29:53 xen02 SM: [22542]   File "/opt/xensource/sm/LVMoISCSISR", line 3
18, in load

Also setting the mask Read/Write for Standard did not change anything - same Error

As I am in migration mode I cannot add a new target. I also cannot shift off one production system already residing on the malfunctioning host.

Any suggestions to overcome this?

With the new IQN on the storage device, make sure it also matches that on the MD3600i device. You may need to do the whole iscsiadm discovery process again and then rescan for picking up the storage device. Also, check of the multipath.conf entry changed as they do sometimes with different version releases.

MD3000i is working correktly, One VM is running on it.

QNAP ts859 is correctly attached to the upgraded server.

Synology is remaining faulty on the upgraded server.

For the synology I added this to /etc/multipath.conf

device {
  vendor	"SYNOLOGY"
  product	"iSCSI Storage"
  path_selector	"round-robin 0"
  path_checker	tur
  path_grouping_policy    multibus
  failback		immediate
  rr_min_io		10
  rr_weight		priorities
}

For me this does not look like a multipath problem as all 4 pathes are showing up correctly.

 blkid -o list gives me

device fs_type label mount point UUID

Those belong to the MD3000i and qnap SRs.  The not monted appear to belong to the Synology.

What I read from the logs is that iscsi logs in through all pathes.

but it does not find the volumes
