Client Mouse Lag any version of Citrix Client

Question

Hello,

 

We are using Amazon Workspaces running Windows Server 2016 with a Windows 10 overlay. We have customers who have Citrix desktops or applications published to a Citrix storefront. If running any version of Citrix Receiver or Citrix Workspace other than Receiver 4.6 there is issue with mouse lag. I think this has to do with how Citrix redraws the pointer?

 

I have tried other things mentioned to help with mouse lag:

  1. Disable Cursor Shadow
  2. Change mouse theme to none
  3. Change the registry key for applications to rewrite the theme
  4. Change display scaling to 125%
  5. Change display scaling to 101%

If we have the latest version of Citrix Workspace installed the mouse lag will be present, we can uninstall that, install Citrix Receiver 4.6 and it will immediately solve the issue.

 

Any thoughts?

Hi,

 

Can you explain exactly how you use Amazon Workspaces and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops together? Because it is a little confusing, since these are two separate products.

You would typically use Amazon Workspaces with the Amazon Workspaces client.

Do you mean you have installed a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment on top of Amazon Workspaces? Or are you connecting into a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment from within the Amazon Workspaces?

Hi,

 

Thanks for clearing that up. First off, that is not an ideal situation and will introduce lag/latency anyway, since it is essentially a double-hop situation. The mouse needs to be captured/rendered in three places; client, Amazon Workspaces and Citrix, and every "hop" will introduce lag.

There are a lot of factors that can trigger mouse lag; multi-monitor, lack of hardware decoding on the client, latency of the network connection, type of application, ...

That said, it doesn't explain why it is better in the "old" Citrix Receiver.

Is it an option to test if a direct connection to the Citrix environment of the customer helps?

Same issue here in the same exact use case.  No mouse lag running citrix direct from on premise, without the double hop of AWS workspace to on premise citrix environment.  Running 4.9 CU9 LTSR, mouse lag; Installed 4.6 no mouse lag when launching citrix apps from within the AWS workspace VDI. 

 

Other newer revs of receiver and citrix workspace client seem to have the same issue, i have not been able to test all of them yet.  

 

edit - additional testing 4.8 also appears to not have any lag issues.
