Citrix Published App crashes periodically when performing certain functions

Ken Flay1709161334

We have an application which is a Published App. Certain functions within the app causes the application to bomb-out (close completely), although sometime the functions work, but mostly it fails.

I have tested the app directly off of the server it is Published against, and it does not crash.

The vendor is not being very helpful as it is blaming Citrix (even though they ratified their program working in our Citrix environment).

We do not Publish Desktops only apps through Citrix, so I was wondering whether there could be anything that I could try to remedy this issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

Have uploaded an application log event when the application bombs-out

"The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004)

Currently our environment is: -

Windows 2008 R2

Citrix 7.15 LTSR CU3

There are some tools you can use to help isolate the cause of this problem. If in fact, the event you show is correlated to the problem application, and the target application is actually crashing, then you should also see an Event 1000 (or similar) denoting the application crashed. Crashes will generate dump files that you can send to the vendor to have them analyze the failure. It would help to know what exact app is affected and what exact process the user tries to perform that causes the "crash".

Sometimes, this DWM error is due to a graphics related issue. Try some of these tests.

  1. Test launching the application as an RDP Initial App. https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX218256 . If it crashes in RDP, then the vendor needs to supply the fix. Or there could be issues with the VM machine (VDA) itself.
  2. Test launching a Published desktop, then launch the app from the desktop session (Double hop)
  3. Test with default Citrix Graphics policies https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/policies/reference/ica-policy-settings/graphics-policy-settings.html
  4. Test with a single, lower resolution, monitor.
  5. Make sure the VM (VDA) has sufficient Graphics Memory.
  6. Review this article for more info on graphics https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX136671
  7. Use this tool to enable and disable Seamless flags: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX222592, https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX101644

Hope this helps!
