RAID-5 Xenserver cannot start after replaced one HDD

Andrzej Kuster

Question

Hi, quite new problem,

my HP Proliant DL380G5 has 4 disks SAS 300GB P400 raid controller -  working RAID-5. Yesterday I got message that first drive is failed. I've replaced this drive to new one (the same parameters), but when I try to start I saw only GRUB GRUB GRUB and in my opinion it stops. Could You advice me something?

What should I do to backup VM in this situation?

Yes, thats odd. It doesn't boot. Yesterday I went to professional laboratory, because I was afraid about data in this VM. In this laboratory said, that RAID controller after first drive failed rebuilded RAID automatically on the other 3 drives. In this moment they are try to recover files. They recovered RAID on three disks and try to boot in original server but first screen which appears was to install XENServer. I am still waiting.
