Present VDIs within one delivery group as individual published desktops?

Hi,

I think you will need to give some more context into your current deployment/configuration:

  • Is it a published desktop using Virtual Apps (XenApp), or a VDI using Virtual Desktops (XenDesktop)?
  • If VDI; static or pooled?
  • What are your users seeing now?
  • Any other info that could be relevant

Thanks,

Koenraad

1) VDIs in 7.15ltsr

2) static

3) a single icon for the entire DG containing the VDIs

Thanks!

It is the expected behavior (I did not suggest otherwise). I am wondering if I can change the behavior to show individual VDIs.  As for the why, it is a bad reason, but its a request from the business.  The VDIs in question generate reports, many of which take a very long time to generate and they cross the operations user's shift schedules. So instead of logging on with individual IDs they log on with a generic ID to a specific VDI (via RDP) to continue the work of the previous shift.  We'd like to get everyone moved over to access the VDIs through Citrix, but the problem is generic IDs and statically assigned VDIs are not a great mix because so far as I can see a user cannot pick the individual VDI they wish to log on to when they all use the same damn id.  So I am just investigating if there is a way to list individual VDIs in Storefront so that the business can continue using their generic id and that I don't have to create a DG for each and every VDI.  I am aware of its ugliness.

no worries. I actually have not pulled these VDIs into my 7.15 environment yet. Ideally they would be in one machine catalog and one delivery group.  All machines are assigned the same id- multiple users use that same id to sign into the VDIs.  Currently the do with with RDP, meaning they can pick which VDI to log on to.  I don't see a way to do that in Citrix without putting each VDI into its own delivery group.

Hi,

Indeed, I don't think it will be possible without multiple DGs.

Do they only use one specific application, or multiple? Perhaps you could go the Published Application route and then publish the application per desktop and give it a unique name.
That would kind of have the same effect though, you'd need to maintain multiple published applications.

In any case, good luck with getting it working as efficiently as possible.

Best,

Koenraad

You could technically do this with Tags.

Give each VDI a unique tag and then in the Add Desktop part of the Delivery Group you use the "Restrict launches to machines with tag" feature. Then you could create a Published Desktop for each tagged VDI in the Delivery group.
