Citrix Virtual Apps, general usage question

Bjørn Sigurd Johansen

We have a Windows Forms based SW product we sell to miscellaneous customers.

In order to avoid local installation and patching, we consider using Citrix Virtual Apps, and wonder if this as an advisable approach.

One thing that puts me at un-ease, is that on the documentation page https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/technical-overview/active-directory.html, it says that "Active Directory is required for authentication and authorization".
But our customers will of course not be part on any common Active Directory structure since our customers are not in-house.

Does this mean that we can not use Citrix Virtual Apps?  (If so, I find this very strange).

Our Win Forms application reads and write local Excel files.  This is of course no problem if our application is installed locally.

But how is access to local file resources done if using Citrix Virtual Apps?

Hello, bjorn,

Take a look at this https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/storefront/current-release/configure-manage-stores/create-store-unauthenticated.html for creating a site for anonymous users.  Then you would create a delivery group for unauthenticated users:  https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/install-configure/delivery-groups-create.html

Look at the 'client drive redirection' policy here: https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/policies/reference.html to get an idea about Question 2.
