Exploring load balancing / cloudbursting

Hi,

For a school project we're exploring cloudbursting. I've found documentation explaining the various load balancing algorithms but haven't seen an option that fits our case.

My question is:

Can ADC direct requests to on premise services until a certain threshold is reached (like # sessions or maybe even vmWare cluster resource limits), and from then on direct requests to a cloud environment. then when load drops off, direct traffic to the on premise services again?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

If you reached a limit of connections/bandwidth via the vservers spillover settings or all services max out their settings, then you would engage a backup method like the redirect URL or the backup vserver in the protection methods.  The redirect URL in this case could potentially point to the cloud location instead of another on prem lb vserver.

In the GUI, edit the lb vserver properties and go to Protection Methods.  The limits would be based on the service limits all being maxed out or down (or potentially vserver limits being reached.)

It's also possible depending on scenario that the priority load balancing config might be used that when lb group 1 is maxed out, spillover to lb group 2 and this would need some different setup to direct to cloud.  But this might needs some tweaking for this exact scenario.

Thank you, this looks like what we need! We can base spillover on # connections. ( all theoretically tho, we don't have access to an ADC).

Another question that rose during our investigation was: Can we configure a failover construction between a local ADC and an AWS VPX ADC?  It looks like Cloudbridge is the feature we need to exchange heartbeats etc. but how would the external interfaces be configured? Could u shine a light on this matter?

Kind Regards,

Tim
