CTX227286 - outlook won't activate in seamless session

Jochen Steenbrugge

Question

Hello,

Building a new farm, server 2019, virtual apps 1909, fslogix, citrix upm and office 365 build 1902.

Running the published destop, outlook opens, able to activate no issues. Logoff.

Same user, open outlook published app, 'set of folders could not be openend'.

Checking ctx227286, but solution one mentions te exclude a licensing folder, solution2 adding it? Anyway, I assume it's regarding activation.

anyone else has exerperiencing this issue?

Thanks

Eventhough I added certain regkeys in a GPO, somehow the don't work when using outlook as published app. Does UPM behave differently between apps and desktops?

So I ended up creating a batch file with: reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity" /v "DisableADALatopWAMOverride" /d "1" /f /t REG_DWORD

Only needed it to run once. Works now.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I have some more information on why this happens. Office modern authentication requires the "App Readiness" service to process the users logon. For some reason when launching a published app, this service does not get called and does not process the user logon, meaning any application relying on modern authentication will not launch correctly (the authentication window will launch, but it is invisible and not clickable). The above reg key will disable modern auth for Outlook, thus allowing SSO using the older Microsoft authentication method. Not sure why the App Readiness service isn't called though...
