Orphaned Disks

jamie mwanza

Question

I am running Xenserver 8.0 and using XOA as the backup agent. I just realised that i have so many orphaned disks. My question is. Is there a way of avoiding this accumulation? i have asked XOA and they say this can only be resolved from the XEN side. I have manually removed them but they keep growing. If there is a way of quickly coalescing i would appreciate.

thanks.

This generally involves a manual cleanup process as a coalesce won't work for example if the SR gets too full. One ugly option is to copy all the VMs and their storage to a different SR and re-initialize the old one. It's very time-consuming, but one of the few ways that will work for sure. You can also export/import all the VMs but that entails a lot of down time.
