Question

I have a small cluster running XenServer (Citrix Hypervisor) v8. We have a couple large VMs (2TB disks) that had to be deleted/recreated for various reasons. (would have loved to create larger that 2TB thin provisioned disks but could not)

My NFS SR shows in XenCenter as being 21TB allocated! "Used" shows corrected at 1.8TB of a 4TB mount. In reality the SR should barely be over provisioned. Is there a way to reclaim this? In VMWare there is a "hole-punching" process for the VMFS datastores. I haven't been able to find anything for NFS or XenServer (Citrix Hypervisor).

Any help is appreciated.

If a coalesce doesn't work, unfortunately your best hope is to move all the data temporarily to another SR (or several, if needed) so that the usage falls back to zero. Or export all the VMs, delete them from the SR, and import them all back in again.

A coalesce with space reclaiming can take up to 24 hours to complete, but at some point if there's not enough space left it won't clean up on its own, alas.
