Disk corruption after converting to vDisk (7.15 LTSR CU4)

Sander de Valk1709158172

We experience an problem after we convert the disk to Vdisk with the provisioning wizard. This problem occurs on a XenApp Windows Server 2016 (1607) environment. The Citrix version we use is 7.15 LTSR CU4 on a XenServer hypervisor (also tested it on VMWare, same issues).

The symptoms do not show at once and everything seems ok. We started to notice the issue after installing LCU updates from Microsoft. After installing the Cumulative Updates (doesn't matter witch month), we experience application crashes, Windows Installer issues, not able to install any Roles or Features etc..

We tried to fix the problem using these commands, but did not solve the issue. No corruption found!

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

DISM /Online  /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then we open an case with Microsoft, but they also did not find any issues relating to the OS. We started building a new image with target device software 7.15 LTSR CU3, and the problem is solved.

Is this a known issue?

I had the same issue with windows server 2016 on vmware.

Maybe this was caused by the Windows  Server October patches or by an optimization script used in the past on the golden image.

There was an issue with printer spooler components causing issue installing, re-installing RDS and Citrix components (VDA, WEM, PVS).

Query the internet for "windows october patches printer spooler"

Solution: Install November patches.

In some cases optimization scripts remove windows update components or outdate drivers from winsxs folder and other folders to minimize disk space.

Unfortunatly there is NO solution available. I tried all the DISM and SFC stuff no way out

Finally I installed a new fresh windows server os with all the aplications.
