Legacy drive mapping in xenapp 7.15

Question

We are in the process of moving from a XenApp 6.5 environment to XenApp7.15 LTSR and we seem to be having an issue with client drive mappings. We have a couple applications that need to write to a small file on the client's C:\ drive in order to work properly. We previously created servers with an N:\ as opposed to a C:\ (newsid in server 2003, unattended answer file in server 2008) to avoid the confusion for the app of 2 C:\ drives, and while we had more issues in server 2016 we eventually got the servers built with N:\ drives. Our problem is citrix doesn't seem to see the local drives the same even with the following registry key set

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\UncLinks]
"UNCEnabled"=dword:00000000

so my question is- can we have 7.15 LTSR see client drives as XenApp 6.5 sees them. The attached document gives you a visual of the difference between the two and how client drives are displayed.
