DNS & Load Balance design guidance for 2 Site setup

Our setup:

2 site, Netscaler on each site (AWS/On Prem), we only use it for XD/XA Services externally. We use 3rd party DNS provider (no GSLB). Both act as Active, we just use the Ext DNS to dictate which site will be used.

Issue:

Internally we use MS DNS with Round Robin to the NS VIPs. But in event of site Blackout (for On-Prem), we have intermittent issues because of the DNS round robin will try to reach to IP that are not online.

What would be a better design?

Would NS Virtual DNS Server help? If so, please provide brief overview to understand concept.

Thanks

Hello

i would you DNS on Netscaler within a Load Balance Virtual Server.

You can still use Round Robin if you want and in case 1 site is not reachable it will automatically switch to the other, without trying to reach the offline one.
