Citrix Connection Quality Indicator is no longer following GPO policies

Keith Perri

Question

We have been using Citrix CQI since it was first released and have used the GPO settings to basically hide it (prevent the notifications) so only admins or savvy users know it exists and doesn't annoy regular users with constant pop-ups about slow network or other potential issues. The recent update released on 29 May 2019 seems to be ignoring most of the GPO policies and is now constantly popping up with multiple notifications despite the GPO set for it not to. Has anyone else who has updated experienced the same issues?

I've attached a screenshot of our GPO settings for Citrix CQI and we haven't changed anything regarding those since first deployment. I've checked the Session Hosts and the policies are applying to them, but CQI doesn't seem to be following the pertinent notifications settings. Are there any debug logs I can enable that could point to the issue?

Thanks!

So it seems it is selectively using some of the GPO, are the other settings just not shown in this log or are they not supported anymore?

Did a procmon trace of Citrix CQI to see what registry keys it was reading on launch. Seems it's skipping most GPO except for the one's shown in the log above. There's even a few settings (ProcessPriority, KeepSleepingInUnsupportedPlatform, IdleMsg, and FullyDisableHRBS) that are undocumented or not included in the admx files. Screenshot of the procmon trace where CQI is reading its GPO is attached for reference.

We are also experiencing this issue since the upgrade to version 19.5.0.24.

Can someone from Citrix comment on this issue, I couldn't find anything related in the known issues documented here: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX220774

We opened a case with Citrix and were pointed to the podio form for the CQI.  If you are experiencing similar issues with CQI it may be beneficial to submit a response.

Was running into this myself and came across this forum post before hitting the CTX article. Looks like this should have been resolved in 19.5.1.30 - https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX220774

Can anyone else confirm this before we start updating vDisks?

Hi,

I can confirm this issue was already solved in version: 19.5.1.29

Just upgraded to CQI 19.9.0.33 from 1.3.0.94 and I am not experiencing this problem however I am use local computer policy instead of GPO.  Does anyone know why it does not show available bandwidth?

CQI no bandwidth.jpg

Hi, I had this same issue, apparently its not supported anymore on 20.3.0.38. Below is their response.

Thanks for your time over the meeting, As we discussed over the meeting the behavior (“available bandwidth: XX MBPS” is not visible in option panel on the published desktops) that you seeing in your environment is expected as the  option “available bandwidth: XX MBPS” is been removed in the later release.

Please the customer feedback for the removal:Copied form the product team e-mail response.

This is the expected behavior, we removed “available bandwidth”.

Here are some typical problems collected from customer feedback about available bandwidth

False indication: My network doesn't have problems, but CQI keeps reporting poor connection

Available bandwidth didn't recover after removed the network speed limit

Annoying interruption: When I am watching a video, CQI keeps popping out the state panel. it distracts me
