Compatibility between Xendesktop 7.15 LSTR (Controller) and VDA 7.6

daye moon

Question

Hi,

I'm considering how to set a environment now and have a question.

We already have a Citrix VDI environment and DDC is using Xendesktop 7.6 on xenserver 6.5. VM are using VDA 7.6 too.

We have never been upgraded after first installed.

We will add new servers to this environment.

# New Server will be set like this.

 - Xenserver version : 7.1 CU2

 - VDA version which VM will use : 7.15 LSTR or 7.18

!! Question !!

As I know, xenserver 7.1 could not assigned license with  Xendesktop 7.6 controllers.

Is this right?

If that is right, I have 2 ideas.

 1. Just update Citrix Licensing daemon version.

 2. Upgrade DDC's Xendesktop version to 7.18

Which one is better?

Thank you.

Hi,

If you have the necessity to release the new licenses you can upgrade the version of licensing server to the new release without any problems.

The new license server can release new and old licenses.

You can add licenses to XenServer by using the XenDesktop licenses because the XenDesktop License includes the XenServer licenses (if used only for Citrix workloads).

In case you use the XenServer for Citrix Workloads and other workloads (es: generically VMs) you have the necessity to acquire dedicated licenses for XenServer (you can not use the XenDesktop licenses in this case, for EULA of XenDesktop license).

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.

I understood a only upgrading a version of licensing server. ( use Citrix_Licensing_11.15.0.0_BUILD_24100.zip file )

Another curious point is this.

# Case 1

1. Controller Version : XD 7.6  and upgraded a license daemon version to 11.15.

2. VM (Windows 7 or 10 ) is using XD 7.6 and XD 7.15

# Case 2

1. Controller Version : XD 7.18

2. VM (Windows 7 or 10 ) is using XD 7.6 and XD 7.15.

Question : Is this working properly without any performance issue? (I'm not sure a performance when I use a mixed version of XDs.)

Thank you.
