Java for the Enterprise - Managing costs

Christopher Yue

We rely on Java for some of our applications as part of Delivering Server Desktops (2016).

With news that Enterprises will have to licence their use of JAVA on a per processor basis (in my case) I am looking to set up some Application Silo servers instead and publish out the JAVA reliant applications to keep costs down.

I was wondering what other people are doing about this.

We use a little bit of Java but unfortunately for some critical sites so we are in a similar boat. We are looking at going OpenJDK in the business and exploring options around packaging and distributing it.

Amazon were not happy when Oracle announced they would be charging for Java so developed their own packaged open Java deployment called Amazon Corretto. Maybe worth a look into for you.
