Crash dump analysis

Crash dump analysis is an art of sorts. you can start by running "strings filename-of crash-dump" |less" and look for any words that stand out that might give some sort of indication of the issue, in fact, using "head" instead of "less" might work even faster as often the major issue shows up right away. I'd also look in /var/log for other indications of issues that may have cropped up just before the crash dump was generated.

Finally, if you have the time and interest, there's the Red Hat kdump utility; for details, see for example: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/kernel_administration_guide/kernel_crash_dump_guide
