PVS Windows 10 version 1083 Personal vDisk Inventory error

Tom Swift

Question

Trying to spin up new Windows 10 PVS based XenDesktop machines and getting an error while trying to run Personal vDisk Inventory.  We tried to ignore it, but when VM's were created via PVS we couldn't log in to them.  Even from the VMware console if clicked the send CTRL-ALT-DEL the machine does not respond.  Using another machine we looked at Services and Citrix Desktop Service was not running and when we tried to start it we got an error "Windows could not start the Citrix Desktop Service on WIN10VDI52.  Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."  In the event logs we have an error 1003 - CtxUvi - The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Drive has detected an integrity error during process creation.  The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has been disabled.

Already tried:

Yes...we know Personal vDisks are a depreciated feature but we don't know any other way to make Static machines via PVS and permit users to install their own applications and not lose them after a reboot.

PVD appears to have been validated only upto windows 10 1607

From a general support perspective, PVD with windows 10 appears to fall outside of currently supported scenarios

Guidance is to migrate from PVD to Applayering

Hi Hortiz,

We are looking at a similar project but I was wondering if you could share some specifics about the issues you encountered with Personal vDisk and 1703? have you progressed to a newer build of Windows since your post last year?

Many thanks,

Dustin

Hi Dustin,

We have 3 protect with that version because is the only that works with personal disk, we just have client migrating to app layering with personalization, so we stay there 1703 and PVD.

Will it work on Windows 10 Build 1803? I know it says Build 1607 and you have gone upto B 1703. As, I am trying to do the image preparation on Build 1803 and it fails. I tried to set the timeout value to 60 through powershell and errors out.

Set-ProvServiceConfigurationData -Name ImageManagementPrep_PreparationTimeout -Value 60

Any suggestions or help please much appreciated. As, we are building desktops for programmers to have their own personal vdisk so they can Install and update their own desktops. Or App layering is the only way to go now?

Another question I have is it says DEPRECATED when we create the machine catalog, but then it continues to go through the process. Anything, I am not following if it is deprecated.
