Generic USB Redirection: how to safely remove mass storage devices

Martin Koumlnig

I´m playing around with Generic USB Redirection on Xenapp7.17 (Server 2016) in order to use USB Drive Encryption on our Thinclients in future.

When I redirect a mass storage device (Class=08 sublcass=05) the redirection is working, but Users cant remove the device safely!

(as mentioned in https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/current-release/general-content-redirection/usb.html)

- The "safe removal" Icon on the taskbar does not appear.

- When a user right-clicks on the drive to remove it safely - UAC prompts for Admin Credentials.

- If I enter Admin Credentials the device is removed correctly.

Any Ideas?

Thanks for help

VMware hypervisor? If so you have probably turned off device hotplug in order to prevent users from accidentally ejecting the server's NIC. Unfortunately it also removes the safe removal option for USB devices. You can turn the option back on but that's not advised especially on a shared server. One user can wreck a lot of people's day.
