11 The Personal vDisk timed out while trying to find a storage disk for users' personalization settings.

Michal Kossek

Question

Hello,

Recently few our Persistent VDIs are having problems with PvD(version 7.6.1.8) as in the Citrix Console they appear as "Agent Error".

See CTXconsole.jpg (i don't kny why but i can't nest images into the post)

With status "11 The Personal vDisk timed out while trying to find a storage disk for users' personalization settings."

See CTXconsolePvD.jpg

When logged as admin to the VDI the error appears:

Error.jpg

Collected logs - attaching it.

Found that:

[ERROR][12-11-2015 09:47:06]InventorySto   [0531] Failed to create a new store database file C:\ProgramData\Citrix\personal vDisk\InventoryStore\InventoryStore.dat. errno = 2
[ERROR][12-11-2015 09:47:06]InventorySto   [0034] Failed to Load/Create database file InventoryStore.dat with error code: 1627l
[ERROR][12-11-2015 09:47:12]VDeskNativeS   [0348] Delete file failed with Error:2

[ERROR][12-11-2015 09:59:14]InventorySto   [0358] Could not find the inventory for the version 0 in the store

Made research and already performed these troubleshooting steps:

  • Shut down the machine
  • Removed Write Cache D: drive from vCenter
  • Added new drive with same settings
  • Started the machine
  • Error persists
  • Done ctxpvd -s reset
  • Rebooted the machine
  • Same error

Does anyone encounter same problem? What debugging steps should i take?

Partionally it was solved by https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX202283

Additional thing we noticed that Agent Error was appearing when the PvD was full - implemented script to monitor the PvD size and warn user that he/she needs to clean the PvD or order a new one (with bigger PvD).

And as @Sandro mentioned:

the PvD in newer versions has been depreciated and recommended not to use it.

I've seen this before. The resolution was to simply restart the PVD service on the VM and reboot it. It comes up in PVD state"Ready" after that. This is without the reg time out key change either.

Yes, this is the solution but in that case i had(already noted in the initial post about the ctxpvd -s reset) the error came back after a while. Other problem was that user was loosing all his confiugration and personal data stored there - you can imagine the frustration of wiping user's data for the 3rd time.
