Finally the much awaited release of XenApp 5 can now be downloaded from MyCitrix download page (needs MyCitrix credentials).

XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008 needs a full install and since this is the first time we are supporting Windows Server 2008 platform, there is no upgrade from previous versions. And, this comes in a DVD. No more Server CD and Component CD. Everything is one DVD for the Windows Server 2008 platform. And don't forget to check out this technical guide for a step by step approach in migrating to XenApp 5.

XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 does not require a full install and supports upgrading from previous XenApp versions (4.0 and above). In fact there have been no server side updates and the core server install still uses Presentation Server 4.5 install. All the new functionality can be implemented using the new clients and components (like Web Interface 5.x, EdgeSight 5.x, Streaming Profiler/Client 1.2 etc). So, why did we call this release XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 and not something like Presentation Server 4.5 Feature Pack 2 for Windows Server 2003? Let's not go there  and I think that deserves a blog post of its own. Anyhow, the good news is that all this new functionality on Windows Server 2003 can be adopted without doing a fork lift upgrade/migration. Again, for step by step instructions on implementing the new functionality, check out the technical guide for migrating to XenApp 5.

Btw, don't miss out on the first ever XenApp 5 virtual event on Sept 9th. More than 2500 customers and partners (and still counting) have already registered for this online virtual event.

download of version 5.0 for 2003 is still pointing to 4.5. fp1

I found the same thing. Can't download 5!

Hi All,

As 5.0 for 2003 is a 4.5 Core plus New Modules (Client, Web Interface, Streaming Profiler) I guess that could be a normal Thing and that there won't be any specific 5.0 for Windows 2003 Media.

Best Regards,

Pierre

Please check the download page now! Also, remember that the core server install for XenApp 5 on W2k3 is still PS 4.5 FP1. Hence the install and the auto run show PS 4.5. All the new functionality is in the clients and components like Web Interface 5.x, EdgeSight 5.x etc.

i see, verion 4.5 renamed to 5.0. i don't like such a misleading practices.

As indicated in my blog, the download page and other places, the core server install has not changed for WS03 and hence it still reflects 4.5. All the new functionality is in the components (WI 5.x, ES 5.x etc) and XenApp clients

What about the Media Foundation enhancements Aureliano Lopez-Martin talk about here: http://community.citrix.com/blogs/citrite/derekt/2008/02/11/(Video)+SpeedScreen+Multimedia+Acceleration+and+RAVE

Are those enhancement available for Win2003 too?

As when we released version 4.5, Win2003 still only supports applications that rely on DirectShow and DirectX Media Objects (DMOs). In other words: Application developers cannot write Media Foundation applications for Win2003. Consequently, the RAVE for XenApp 5 only needs to work with DirectShow and DMO on Win2003.

Microsoft introduced Media Foundation with Win2008, and RAVE for XenApp 5 is also able to remote Media Foundation content on Win2008.

On that video, we covered both the RAVE technology as a whole and specifically the enhancements for W2K8 around Media Foundation.
